Obsessions: Oxford Shoes

Since mid-2009 I have been searching for the perfect oxford shoe. I didn't want it to be too masculine, too feminine, too shiny, the toe must not be too pointed or too rounded, the heel must be very low...the list goes on and on. I thought for sure I would find a pair while on vacation in San Francisco since the place is a shopping mecca, but alas, there were not many oxford shoe options. Behold, the Steven Melin Pinked Perforated Oxford in Cognac. At $105, it's quite a bargain compared to other options on the market. However, I have yet to decide whether the shoe matches anything in my closet! Plus, it's not really a wear to work kinda shoe...except on casual Fridays...and then again, it begs the question "what do i wear it with?" The only outfit I can think of would be skinny or straight leg jeans rolled up to above my ankles and the top would definitely have to be relatively plain.

What are your thoughts on this shoe? What would you wear it with?

  2. Wow, those really are "perfect." I haven't seen any classic flat oxfords I've liked, usually they come in shiny black or black and white, which I don't think I could pull off. These are definitely the perfect shape, I know what you mean about not to round, not to pointy. I think you should go for it, the price it right! Although, they're a few dollars cheaper at Nordstrom! http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3072449?Category=&Search=True&SearchType=predictivesearch&keyword=steven+by+steve+madden+women's+shoes&origin=searchresults.

I like how sometimes oxfords come with pretty ribbon-style laces, and I do like the ones with heels or the oxford inspired sandals. These are kinda cute because they're a little more feminine and dressy: http://us.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=32051&storeId=13052&categoryId=198509&parent_category_rn=198504&productId=1588316&langId=-1.

I agree with M, they would look cute with a girly/flowy dress. But they'd look nice with a lot of different dresses too. I also think you could wear them to work with a cropped jeans or cropped pants and a cardigan. I don't think the top has to be super plain, I think you would have a lot of options. I think they'd look really nice with sheer socks (regular socks, knee high, or over the knee, any color, light or dark) or tights with either a short skirt or shorts like this (http://www.jcrew.com/browse/popup_single_product_detail.jsp?jproduct=22998&imgSrc=http://images.jcrew.com/erez4/erez?src=images/onFigure/22/22998/22998_YL5478_m.tif&tmp=prdDtIm&isFeatureColor=true) or this (http://fashionspiration.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/0909-alexa-chung-16-de.jpg) or this (http://www.revolveclothing.com/b/MagazineStyleGuides.jsp?magazineArticleId=72&magazinePageId=437&y_offset=0). The last one is kinda strange, but cool because it's not very preppy. Wow, after looking up oxford looks, i'm beginning to think they're a great idea! I'm always looking for flat comfy shoes that you can dress up or down. These totally fit the bill! GET THEM!!! seriously!!!! $100 is a great deal!

Hmm... blogs reeeeeeeally make me want to go shopping...

  3. yeah, i saw a cute black patent loafer with black ribbon shoelaces in the recent lucky mag. ribbon laces do make it look a lot cuter and a little more feminine.

those 'krochet' ones from topshop are cute!

i wonder how the steven ones fit? hmm...i think this calls for a trip to nordstrom this weekend to see if they even carry it locally. doubt it. does anyone have 'steven' shoes?

yunno what other shoe i really want? those gold Sperry top siders from Jcrew. it would be soo cute to wear on the weekends!
